Thierry Mugler: Alien

My sister bought me a bottle of Thierry Mugler Alien for Christmas and I have been using it ever since. It is quite a unique scent and I wasn't actually sure if I liked it at first because it is quite powerful, but now I love it! Everything is unique about it, right down to the bottle. It is a gorgeous shade of purple, in a wonderfully geometric shape. I'm not sure the shape has a name, far too many sides, or perhaps I should've paid more attention in Maths class at school. Either way, it's lovely and I'm sure it's different to any other you will have seen or tried; it looks like a giant jewel.

If you've ever searched high and low for a perfume that lasts all day long, without the need for a lunchtime spritz and where you can still smell the fragrance on you at the end of the day like you can when you try a new perfume for the first time and all you can smell is yourself, then this is the one for you. Even now in August, a whole 8 months after I started using it, I can still smell it every single day like it's a brand new scent to me. I find if you always wear the same perfume day in and day out, people will recognize it as your fragrance and even think of you if they smell it when they're not around you, but you start being unable to detect the scent as well as you used to. Is that just me or do you agree with that? I honestly don't think you get that with Alien at all. I don't wear it every single day, because I like to try new products and mix it about a little, but I wear it at least three days a week. You don't need a lot, which is why I'm still on my bottle from Christmas. I wear 2-3 sprays and that honestly lasts me a full 9 hour shift at work and I will still be able to smell it when I go to bed.

The fragrance is rich, but soft. I would say it's not one for people who like very delicate fragrances as the richness can be quite powerful. It is a floral-woody scent; with white amber, jasmine and cashmeran wood. You're looking at around £50 for 30ml as a starting point and there is also a range of shower gels and lotions that you can get to go with it. It's available in the usual places in the UK: Boots, Superdrug, Debenhams, supermarkets with fragrance sections, chemists, John Lewis and many online fragrance retailers.

I recently learnt that if you want your fragrances to last longer, you should layer them. I never even knew layering your fragrance was a thing, but when you get gift sets with body washes and lotions, use them as they will be absorbed into the skin and make your perfume last longer.
