Smoothies can be made with fruit and vegetables and can make a brilliant addition to your everyday diet without too much extra work and without having to crunch on celery sticks for dinner. I have pulled together all of my favourite recipes, hopefully accommodating all of your taste buds; but if there is something you'd like to see, let me know and I'll create a new smoothie and get back to you.

I'm sure you already figured this out, but you will need a blender, juicer or smoothie maker to make these recipes; unless you want to mush each ingredient to liquid form with a pestle and mortar? I guess that could work too.

I also think with these recipes it's best to find the best consistency and twists for you, so I'll add measurements, but feel free to play around with how much of everything you like.


Be Happy - 2 carrots (grated), 1 orange, orange juice (1 cup) and ice.

Packed with Vitamin A and C, this smoothie will help to keep skin clear, hair shiny, aid fat loss and give you an energy boost.

Tropical Paradise - Apricot (1 cup), mango (1 cup), non-fat natural yoghurt (1/2 cup), lemon juice (4 teaspoons), vanilla extract (1/4 teaspoon) and ice cubes.

The mango in this paradise is capable of fighting so many types of illness; including cancer, stroke and diabetes. It helps aid digestion and clears the skin.


Sea Queen - Cucumber chunks (1 cup), spinach (1 cup), 1 kiwi (peeled and chopped), orange juice (1/2 cup), low-fat natural yoghurt (1/2 cup) and fresh mint leaves (1/4 cup).

This one is high in antioxidants and great for boosting your vision. I called it 'Sea Queen' after its lovely green seaweed colour and its ability to help you see, because I'm smart like that.

Brain Fuel - 1/2 mango, spinach (1 cup), 1/4 avocado, low-fat natural yoghurt (1 cup) and honey (2 teaspoons).

This baby green smoothie is great for your brain. It is high in Vitamin E, helps to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and gives your iron levels a boost.


Very Berry - Strawberries (1 1/2 cups), blueberries (1 cup), raspberries (1/2 cup), honey (2 tablespoons), lemon juice (1 teaspoon) and ice cubes.

Very Berry is high in fibre and, just in case you don't know, fibre is good for you. Fibre slows down the rate at which sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream so you don't have sugar highs and crashes and it also speeds up the intestines so when you're full, you'll know about it and won't start overeating.

Kidney Kindness - Cranberries (1/2 cup), 1 celery stick, 1 cucumber, 1 apple, 1 pear and spinach (1/4 cup).

This berry smoothie will show your kidneys some love and help to cleanse them.

Blue Skies - Skimmed milk (1 cup), frozen unsweetened blueberries (1 cup) and organic flaxseed oil (1 tablespoon).

A wonderfully tasty smoothie for when you're trying to slim down.

Pink Breakfast - Strawberries (1 cup), oats (1 cup), honey (2 tablespoons), low-fat natural yoghurt (2 tablespoons) and milk (1 cup).

Pink Breakfast is the perfect start to the day with its slow releasing carbs, which should keep you full until lunchtime.


Delicious Digestion - Papaya (1 cup), coconut kefir, yoghurt or milk (1 cup), juice from 1/2 lime and honey (1 tablespoon).

The probiotic qualities in coconut kefir make this smoothie a great treat for the tummy.

Soothing Calm - 1 banana, low-fat vanilla yoghurt (3/4 cup), honey (1 tablespoon) and freshly grated ginger (1/2 teaspoon).

Soothing Calm helps with nausea, heartburn, digestion and upset tummies.

Health Kick - Non-fat natural yoghurt (1 cup), 1 banana, strawberries (1/2 cup) and orange juice (1/2 cup).

This basic smoothie recipe will keep you feeling full until lunchtime while giving your immune system a boost.
