How to: Give your makeup a Happy Little Lift

The Problem: Your nail polish has dried up and the lid is now stuck on the bottle.

The Solution: Hold the bottle in a cup of hot water, lid end first. Then wrap an elastic band around the lid for grip and twist.

The Problem: The nail polish has turned gloopy and lumpy.

The Solution: Add a couple of drops of nail polish thinner and shake the bottle; this should turn the polish back into its formerly smooth self.

The Problem: You're nearing the end of your mascara, but you're sure there's still a lot of product left in the tube.

The Solution: Add a couple of drops of any brand of eye drops and rub your mascara wand gently around the insides of the bottle; the mascara should return to a like-new state.

The Problem: Your pressed powder has cracked.

The Solution: Add a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol, press the powder back into shape and allow to dry overnight. The powder may look darker than it did before, but the quality and pigmentation of the product should remain the same.

The Problem: Your lipstick has broken.

The Solution: Depending on how bad it is, you can heat the end of the lipstick with your hair dryer on a low setting and mould the lipstick back into a usable shape, making sure you leave it in the fridge for about an hour to harden. Or, scoop the lipstick out of its tube and mould into a pot. I like to use clear bead organisers; you can buy them on eBay for less than a £1.

Your makeup bag should now be looking suitably smug with itself, well done! If you have any tips to revive your makeup, be sure to share them in the comments section below.
