10 beauty uses for everyday items

1. USE VASELINE TO MOISTURISE YOUR EYELASHES

There is a rumour in the world of beauty that states Vaseline makes your eyelashes grow longer. Now, this hasn't been scientifically proven, but people do swear by it. Even if it doesn't actually make your lashes grow, it does help to condition the hairs. This then leads to the regrowth of new eyelashes being in a much healthier condition; stronger, thicker and therefore able to grow longer before falling out. Try applying Vaseline to your lashes before bed.

2. USE LEMON TO BRIGHTEN YOUR NAILS

If your nails have become discoloured from dark nail polishes or just need a little shine, try rubbing a wedge of lemon over them. This should remove stains and brighten them up. If you want to help make your nails stronger, squeeze the lemon into a bowl and add a few drops of olive oil. Soak your nails for about 10 minutes.

3. USE BABY POWDER AS A DRY SHAMPOO

Massage baby powder into the roots of your hair and then brush it out. This will remove excess moisture and work like a dry shampoo to give you a fresh boost of life between washes.

4. USE TOMATO JUICE TO REMOVE GREEN TONES FROM YOUR HAIR

If you suffer from green tones through your hair, from too much chlorine, tomato juice may hold the answer. Wash your hair before massaging in tomato juice. Wrap your hair in a towel and let the juice soak in for about 15 minutes; then rinse, condition and dry as you normally would.

5. USE SUGAR AS A HAND EXFOLIATOR

If you suffer from dry skin on your hands and moisturisers just won't get that level of softness you're looking for. Take a small pile of sugar in your palm and add a bit of water, rub your hands together and scrub the sugar all over the front and back and between your fingers. Rinse the sugar off and your hands will be like new. Now, apply your hand cream and you'll feel like you have brand new skin. This is quite a rough exfoliator so don't scrub too hard or you may scratch and damage your skin, especially on the backs of your hands.

6. USE BAKING SODA AS A NATURAL TOOTH WHITENER

Baking soda is a common ingredient in toothpaste, but if you're looking for a little extra whitening boost, you can brush your teeth with a paste of baking soda and water between brushings. Baking soda will help remove stains without damaging your tooth enamel.

7. USE GARLIC TO HEAL A COLD SORE

If you need a quick fix for an inconvenient cold sore, try cutting a garlic clove in half and holding it on the sore for 10 minutes. You can repeat this throughout the day.

8. USE BABY OIL AS A BATH FOAM

Have you ever tried a baby oil bath? My sister recommended this to me and it is just amazing. Run a nice hot bath, and instead of adding bubble bath or bath bombs, just add baby oil. It's great if you want to shave your legs in the bath too, no need to use any foam or hair conditioner. When you get out and dry, you will actually be able to feel the moisture being locked in.

9. USE HAIR CONDITIONER FOR SHAVING

Instead of splashing out on expensive shaving foams and creams, buy a cheap bottle of hair conditioner. The conditioner will help soften the hairs and give you a much closer shave.

10. USE A COTTON BUD AS A MAKEUP BRUSH

Simply use the end of a cotton bud to apply concealer, eye shadow and even gel eyeliners.
