Nicky Clarke DesiRED Salon Professional Hair Straighteners

I somehow managed to lose my GHD's a while ago; seriously, who loses GHD's? Anyway, my hair was really starting to annoy me. Although I have naturally quite straight hair, I've had some ridiculously early mornings lately and I've only had time to quickly blast my hair with the hair dryer before dashing out of the house with it still half wet. Well, as I'm sure you can guess, by mid-morning it's pretty big, it's frizzy and it is far from what Vogue refers to as sleek! Definitely time to invest in some new straighteners, the Nicky Clarke DesiRED Salon Professional Hair Straighteners, to be exact.

Nicky Clarke DesiRED Salon Professional Hair Straighteners
I've been a loyal GHD user since school, but as we all know, they cost a bomb! I saw these Nicky Clarke beauties straight away and I loved the design. They are a lovely deep, metallic red; hence the name of the range, 'desiRED' and they would look so stylish on any dressing table. I'd never used Nicky Clarke straighteners before so I wasn't sure on the quality level, but the box states 'independent research shows that more women prefer overall results from Nicky Clarke DesiRED to GHD' and 64% agreed. At first I wasn't sure the percentage was high enough for me to buy, but GHD's really are good and that's a whopping 64% saying that they were not equal to, but BETTER than GHD's. I decided that even if the research wasn't that accurate, with figures like that, the quality should surely come close. In the end, the price swayed me because they were on offer!

Nicky Clarke DesiRED Salon Professional Hair Straighteners
I'm glad I went for them in the end because I'm really impressed! They have a nice slimline design, which sits nicely in my hand and makes it easy to control them. There's a small dial on the inside of the straighteners, which you can use to determine which heat setting would be best for your hair - fine, medium, thick or max; with the maximum heat being 230°C. They heat up pretty much instantly, much faster than any GHD's I've ever used. There's a small power button by the dial which you need to press to turn the straighteners on, this blinks red until they're ready to use and then it remains solid red. I have mine set to thick hair, which does a splendid job of giving me sleek, straight hair without any frizz. I usually only spend about five minutes straightening my hair, but you'd never know with these bad boys!

Like my GHD's, these have a long cord with 360° swivel; but the most impressive feature and probably one of the most required features on any hot hair styling tool is the auto shut-off! So ladies and gents, there will be no more incidents of dashing home in your lunch break or texting your neighbour to nip around and see if you left your straighteners turned on because after one hour, these wonderful straighteners will turn themselves off! My GHD's never had that and I love these so much for it, the amount of stress I have avoided with this feature is brilliant.

I highly recommend these to anyone looking for the quality of GHD, but a much lower price tag. GHD's usually start at around £110, with a mini version being available for around £90. These usually sell for around £81.99, but I managed to get mine half price in Boots for £40.99.

What are your top tips for sleek and frizz free hair?

TV is AWESOME!

There's some awesome television happening this Autumn! October is the time to snuggle up, get your favourite drink, and watch some of the best shows TV has to offer right now. Here's some shows I've recently been loving and some that are coming soon.

TV is Awesome Title Image
DEVIOUS MAIDS

If you liked Desperate Housewives, then you'll love this. Before you start thinking that this is just going to be a rubbish remake with recycled storylines, please stop! Devious Maids keeps their storylines fresh and clean, without anything unnecessary being dragged out. It's about a group of maids who discover all sorts of scandalous gossip about their employers' lives and discover murder, theft, love, lies and a whole other realm of juicy details.

Devious Maids Title Logo
I was hooked throughout the first two series, of which the second recently finished. I am sad to hear that Devious Maids may not be returning for a third series. This has not been confirmed, nor has it been denied. It is especially annoying since Season 2 ended on such a major cliff-hanger with pretty much the whole cast involved in an incident that leaves their fate unknown. I really do hope it returns.

THE 100

The first series of The 100 ended last week and I can't wait for series two, which is already confirmed (yay!). The 100 is basically about an apocalyptic Earth several hundred years later and the survivors, who now live in space, send down 100 people to see if the planet is habitable as they are running out of oxygen up there. The 100 are a group of young prisoners from aboard The Arc (as their space station is called) and don't know what awaits them on the ground. The action is non-stop and you're still left with so much to learn at the end of the first series. The character development so far is great and I just hope one of my favourites isn't dead, which could be a possibility with the way Season 1 ended. From the makers of Lost, you can expect this show to take as many twists and turns possible, I just hope the final ever episode isn't some crappy prediction everyone could have made from the beginning!

IMPRACTICAL JOKERS

If you're not a fan of the silliness, then you're not going to like Impractical Jokers. Luckily for Gareth and me, we are very much like Chandler and Monica and we just love the silliness! Impractical Jokers is a group of four friends who set tasks for each other, some of which make me cringe so bad, but it's just hilarious. Things like trying to get a stranger to remember who you are, eating things from people's plates and trolleys or working for a 'made up' charity and trying to convince strangers to donate something are the kinds of things you can expect. If you don't like pointless, silly comedy then this show is not for you; however, if you like to laugh at hilarious, sometimes cringe-y and always risky situations, then get watching!
Impractical Jokers Cast
THE WALKING DEAD

I don't know anyone who isn't excited for the return of The Walking Dead on our screens! It's starting Monday and for those of you who have never watched it; it's basically the zombie apocalypse and survival after the horde. I know not everyone loves horror, but this is more drama at the best of times and I really think everyone should have The Walking Dead in their lives. It's one of my all-time favourite shows and I am so excited! I just wish they'd put it on during Summer so I didn't get so distracted from uni work.
The Walking Dead Still Shot
AMERICAN HORROR STORY

This is the fourth season of AHS and it looks creepy as hell. It's got a weird circus type trailer with people in cages, crazy clowns, creepy laughing and a guy with a split tongue; all who look like the colourful characters we'll get to meet and enjoy the pleasure of this time around. I have only seen the first two series of AHS (thank you Netflix) and I missed the third series on TV, but you don't need to have seen any of the other series as each one is a brand new story. The AHS team has a core cast that play roles in every season and some recurring actors come back for the odd episode. I absolutely loved series one so much, I think it's one of the best horror series I've ever seen, the story was so well thought out and it wasn't predictable like most other things are to me. I never complain about predictability because I always guess everything that's going to happen anyway, so I don't think it's fair (hey, I even knew Hans wasn't to be trusted as soon as Anna left Arendelle, but everyone else said they never saw it coming). Oh, spoiler alert!
American Horror Story Logo
American Horror Story is bound to leave me wondering what the bleep just happened, but desperately begging for next week's episode; like every other episode I've ever watched from Season 1 and 2. The stories are so deep and twisted and you just won't see it coming!

GOTHAM

Batman is finally getting his own grown up TV show, alongside Arrow and Smallville. Flash is also getting his own show at the end of the month, but I'm not as excited about that as I am for Gotham. I love Batman and I can't wait to hear the story out of a film or cartoon setting.

The BRITISH Tag!

Good day, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to The British Tag! I wasn't actually tagged to complete The British Tag, but I'd say that just joining in and giving something a go is very British all on its own. The British Tag is a set of questions to determine just how British you are and I dare say I am rather British. I wonder if my Yorkshire-ness will show through in my answers.

The British Tag Cover Image
1. How many cups of tea do you have a day and how many sugars?
Well, this really depends on whether Gareth is around to make it or not; he makes the best tea. If he's not about I'll have 2-3 cuppas a day, but if he is I could easily have up to 7! I tend not to have sugar, but I sometimes have a half if I feel like I need an energy boost; usually if I have a hangover. I always have a brew in the biggest mug possible.

2. Favourite part of your roast?
I don't think this is a fair question to ask a Brit! It's impossible to choose. I can't pick just one, but my favourite parts are the roast tatties, Yorkshires, honey roasted parsnips, gravy and the meat with English mustard and mint sauce - simply divine! I could live on a Sunday Roast without ever getting bored of it, but only if my dad made it; he makes the best roast dinners.

Sliced Roast Pork
3. Favourite dunking biscuit?
Hmm, I have a slight addiction to biscuits and I'm pretty sure if that addiction didn't exist, I'd be several dress sizes smaller than I am. Chocolate digestives will always be the winner for me!

4. Favourite quintessentially British pastime?
I absolutely love going to the garden centre at Christmas time and spending the whole day there in their Winter Wonderlands! I also love fish and chips on the beach and a good spot of Afternoon Tea with huge scones with jam and cream and lots of lovely friends.

Afternoon Tea
5. Cockney Rhyming Slang?
Not quite sure what the question is here, but I'm assuming I'm supposed to say what Cockney Rhyming Slang I know. Apples and pears are obviously stairs and dog and bone is phone. If you're in London you might get asked if you fancy going for a Ruby (Murray), which is a curry. I thought I knew more than that. I probably do, but I'm all out at the moment. I don't Adam and Eve it!

London Telephone Box
6. Favourite sweet?
I'm more of a chocolate person really, but if you were to put me in an English sweet shop, I'd probably order fudge. If you're going to eat fat stuff, do it right, right? I do love a good bon-bon and I also like fruit pastilles and jazzies!

7. What would your pub be called?
Probably something really English like Red Lion, White Horse or Kings Head.

British Pub
8. Number 1 British person?
Emma Watson, without a doubt. She's had such an impact on so many lives already and I've got a feeling she's only just warming up. It also helps that she has amazing style, or at least the class to pull off the looks her stylist puts together for her.

Emma Watson
9. Favourite shop/restaurant?
I love shopping at Boots for all things beauty and it's great for gifts. John Lewis has everything, although sells some brands that I can't afford. For clothes, I'm a big fan of Miss Selfridge, ASOS, Modcloth, River Island, and independent boutique stores scattered all over the country. When it comes to restaurants, I do love good pub grub. For chains, I love a good Pizza Express or TGI Fridays. When you're on a tight budget, you can't go wrong with a Wetherspoons.

English Pub Bar
10. What British song pops in your head?
Our House, Common People, Come on Eileen, London's Calling, 74/75, Cosmic Dancer, Town called Malice; I could go on forever.

11. Marmite?
I'm in between. I haven't had it in the past 10 years, so I definitely don't love it, but I don't hate it either.

And that's The British Tag, Toodle Pip!

How British are you?

Baylis & Harding England 'Peony, White Tea & Jasmine Candle'

Autumn is here and it's time for cosy things: hot chocolate, nights in with Netflix, fluffy socks, chunky soup and all the candles you can handle! I've already started stocking up on my 2014 Autumn/Winter candle supplies and my new favourite is the triple wick peony, white tea and jasmine candle from Baylis & Harding.

Baylis & Harding | Peony, White Tea & Jasmine Cover Image
This candle is huge and is beautifully presented in a pretty glass holder. I absolutely adore the scent, it's so fresh and clean with a delicate hint of femininity. The burning time is approximately 30 hours, which is not quite as long-lasting as a giant Yankee Candle, but they're much lower in price. You can pick these candles up in lots of other fragrances as well, so you can choose which scents work best for you. I just love clean and crisp when it comes to candles; unless we're talking about the honey and chocolate candle from Glade (drool)! I buy that one in bulk. You can get the Baylis & Harding 'Peony, White Tea & Jasmine' Candle for £8 from Tesco. You can get these candles from a range of places, but I haven't been able to find this particular fragrance anywhere else. It is available online if you don't have a local store that stocks them.

No7 Beautiful Skin | Day & Night Cream

When I ran out of my Origins GinZing Energy Boosting and Origins High Potency Night-a-Mins moisturisers, I thought I'd try out some other ranges. I absolutely love the Origins range and I fully intend to restock, but as a blogger I love trying out new products to write about. I decided to give some of the No7 Skincare range a go since I already highly rate the No7 Facial Wipes and I love No7 Cosmetics.

No7 Beautiful Skin Day and Night Cream
No7 is famous for its anti-aging skincare ranges, with the Protect & Perfect Serum being the bestseller. No7 also has a range called Beautiful Skin, which is designed by skin type - normal/oily, normal/dry and dry/very dry. Alongside these core ranges, No7 also provides a range of specialist products to target certain areas or concerns of the skin, such as pore-minimising, skin cell renewal and eye care. No7 anti-aging products are best sellers for a reason and have a huge loyal following, but since I was waiting for payday and the Beautiful Skin range is a bit cheaper, I decided to give that range a try first. I picked up the No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream and Night Cream for Normal/Dry skin.

No7 Beautiful Skin Day and Night Cream
The jars are lovely and stylish and would look nice on any dresser. They have a 'glass' look to them, but they're actually plastic so no fear of smashing them. I think they look really mature and classy. They both smell really nice, it's not overpowering, it's just a soft clean smell. It is only a delicate fragrance, but if you worry about sensitivities in the skin, you needn't worry about No7. All No7 products are hypo-allergenic, so you shouldn't experience any breakouts, itching or redness (obviously, I can't 100% guarantee this and reactions may still occur, but they would be very rare with No7).

No7 Beautiful Skin Day and Night Cream
I have been using the No7 Beautiful Skin day and night creams for almost 4 weeks now and I've got to say, I'm impressed. I'm not sure I love it quite as much as my Origins range, but it comes pretty close and it's about £10 cheaper per cream, so it's a great alternative when I run out right before payday. The day cream has a slightly richer, firmer texture than the night cream. It contains SPF15 and absorbs beautifully into the skin, without feeling heavy or sticky. It makes a great base for my primer. The night cream is a lot finer in texture and just melts into the skin, which is amazing on an evening when I've cleansed my face and I'm getting ready for bed, it's so quick and makes my skin feel so soft.

No7 Beautiful Skin Day and Night Cream
Over the last 4 weeks, I have not experienced any breakouts and I feel like my skin is a lot less dry than it had been feeling. The texture of my skin has improved and it just looks healthier overall. No7 is a Boots exclusive brand, which you can buy in store and online. The Beautiful Skin day cream was £12.50 and the night cream was £13.50, both for jars of 50ml. No7 usually has a 3 for 2 on their skincare ranges too so you can try another product alongside these.
